My impression at CNU, Korea
Zolzaya Otgonkhuu 교육과정박사과정
My name is Zolzaya Otgonkhuu and I am from Mongolia. I am a doctoral candidate in the Department of Education, in the Education College of Chonbuk National University (CNU). It is a great pleasure for me to write about my experiences at CNU, Korea, myself and my feelings after coming here.
Coming to Korea has provided me with some memorable experiences. The day I started my journey from Ulaanbaatar was great day for me, since I was studying abroad a foreign country for the first time. I could only imagine how little of the television, newspapers or radio I would be able to understand. After entering South Korea on February 26th, I took a bus from Incheon to Jeonju.
Actually, the very first day that I came here, I found that it was rather difficult to get use to life and studying at CNU. The sudden change in lifestyle has been pretty hard for me. For instance, I met some Korean people but I could not talk with them because of the language barrier, but I was glad to observe the nature of Korean people. This was new and very different from my culture. As time goes by, things get better and better every day due to the very warm hospitality and helping hands from professors, and Korean friends. In my observation, all of the university\'s professors and staff members are fully dedicated to their work. The professors are not just great scientists, they are also great educators. I believe that the eminent faculty, with their vast amount of knowledge, would strengthen my fundamentals. The fully equipped University, supported by an immense collection of books and journals, combined with my dedication and hard work will help me to achieve my goal.
\"Korea is a very beautiful country\" this was my first impressionof Korea. However, after living here for three months, I want to add that, \"Korea s a really wonderful place to live and study.\"It has a lot of attractions like, the distinct four seasons, environmental friendliness, Korean language, the kindness and friendliness of Korean people and Korean food.
With such a wonderful gift of nature, Korean people value the nature. They take care of their nation\'s nature very well. Firstly, they protect the land by garbage separation system. They divide the garbage into recyclable, food and general rubbish. According to studies, the Earth can be saved by reducing the burning of rubbish, increasing the reuse of papers, plastics, cans and bottles; and developing a sense of duty in peoples\'minds to protect Mother Earth. They are truly environmental friendly. Secondly, Koreans preserve their parks, mountains and rivers. They do this by cleaning and maintaining natural spaces. They also make improvements to the parks all the time.
In my course work, I also have Korean language courses, which I take, with other international students. We are all enjoying the lessons because this is a different language, which we have not learnt before. Also, the unique form of Korean words attracts me to study the language. It is totally different from the languages we learnt before, English and Russian. The Korean jamo (characters analogous to letters in the Roman alphabet) have round and square shapes. It is so special for us that how the Korean people can read the words. After I have studied from my Korean teacher, I found out that it is quite easy. When combined, the characters form Korean words. It is simple, yet systematic and comprehensive, and it is considered one of the most scientific writing systems in the world. The structure of the grammar is same as my native language Mongolian. I will continue to learn this language until I can master it. Besides, my professional lessons, which I take alongside Korean doctoral candidates, are taught in Korean. They are very helpful, friendly and polite people who always assist me.
In addition, the food here is very healthy. Unlike us Mongolian, Koreans eat very little greasy food. Moreover, Koreans eat lots of fresh vegetables. This way, we can receive the maximum benefit of the vitamins andcarbohydrates that we consume. Thus, Korean food is unique and contributes to our well-being. I could go on endlessly about things that attract me to Korea.
I cannot describe everything here but only introduce the most memorable things I have experiencedin Korea. I have a really good impression of Korea. I think, it is a good place to study and even live! Koreans are really kind and friendly. They treat both the environment and the public very well. In short, Korea is an absolutely a dynamic nation. \"Fighting!\" which means hold your head high and do a good job.
Studying abroad at a foreign college or university offers you more than just an education. Studying abroad gives you an opportunity to learn more about the way our world works, to see things through different eyes, absorb a foreign culture (a great chance to learn a foreign language, too!), and have a lot of fun. The three or four (or more) years you spend in college are the perfect time to immerse yourself in another culture and enjoy life through the eyes of a European or an Asian.
One of the major reasons people reject the idea is because, well, it is foreign! It sounds scary to go to another country where you do not know anymore. However, once you are there you realize how amazing it is. It is so far removed from your home that you are forced to grow as a person. You become more adventurous and willing to try new things. You meet new people and make friends from backgrounds you would never have imagined.
Once you are in a foreign country and enrolled in school, you will understand the depth of the experience. You might even start to pick up the local accent! I know that I have started sounding like my foreign friends and using slang or words unique to the area. That is part of the fun! I have also been able to try new foods and meet some amazing people.
To conclude my experiences at CNU and in Korea, I would like to say that CNU is a studying and living example of a global study center and the progress of South Korea in the field of all scientific research and advanced technology. The attitude of its staff members and professors help to make it sanctuary of education and research. This contribution in my field of research has inspired me to work and study under the dynamic leadership of the CNU professors. I feel that I am a very lucky person to be a CNU student.
